Personalised

Music Therapy Sessions

Providing opportunities to explore

communication and self-expression through

meaningful musical interactions.

Music Therapy

Music Therapy offers a creative, accessible and relational approach
to supporting children, young people and adults with their
social, emotional, mental and physical health,
communication and self-expression, and general wellbeing.

It is an established clinical intervention, which is regulated by the

Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Music Therapy sessions may include meaningful musical interactions, such as:

. Communicating through shared music

   making.

. Expressing and exploring emotions through

   music.

. Creating new music.

. Writing songs.

. Listening to music.

. Performing music or songs.

A selection of musical instruments would be available to use during sessions, such as:

. Keyboard, guitar and ukulele.

. Drums, maracas, tambourines and bells.

. Ocean drum, rain sticks and chimes.

Clinical aims would always be personalised but some examples might be:

. Provide opportunities for communication

through use of voice and/or instruments.

. Explore non-verbal communication.

. Provide a safe space to explore emotions

   and self-expression.

. Explore and develop interpersonal skills

   through group music making.

. Provide a safe space to explore and

   develop playfulness and creativity.

. Explore and enhance self-confidence

   through shared music making.

. Provide an accessible opportunity to

   enhance general health and wellbeing

   through group singing.

Central to the therapy process is the development of a secure therapeutic relationship between the music therapist and the client or group of clients.

Music Therapy sessions are client-led and no prior musical knowledge or experience is required.

Every effort is made to ensure that the music therapy room remains a safe and comfortable space that is uninterrupted for the duration of each session, and all sessions are considered to be confidential, unless there is genuine concern for a client's health, safety or wellbeing.
